RACE REPORT

The Athletics Ireland Race Series kicked off with the Irish Runner 5k in the Phoenix Park. This was the first race of 3 with a 5 mile and 10 mile comming later in the Summer. This is a great way for runners to target themselves towards the longer distance and maybe even aid their training for Dublin Marathon.

Over 1,100 runners took part with 230 of these running as part of the National 5k Championships.

National medals were up for grabs for all age categories and club team prizes too. There was another great atmosphere created to enhance the runners experience. Warm up routines, entertaining Commentary and music all added to the occasion.

Peter Samba of Dunboyne A.C. won the main race with Rahney Shamrock A.C. man Kieran Kelly winning the National Championships and 2nd overall.

Catherina Mckiernan won the overall womens race along with winning that National title at the same time.

Well done to all participants, organisers and volunteers for a fantastic event.

Clubs who did not declare age cat teams, will be analysed to assess what age category team they will fall into. This is determined by the youngest athlete in the team. Ex Team made up of M35, M40, M55 will fall into Master 035+ team.
